The objective of these rules is to provide a safe and orderly environment for the use and enjoyment of Sardis Swim & Racquet Club facilities. The Club Manager and Staff are authorized to enforce all Club rules, as approved by the Board of Directors. It is the duty of all members, their children and guests to obey and support these rules. Children’s conduct is the inherent responsibility of their parents.
I. General Club Rules
a. The Club Manager, Assistant Manager or Lifeguards on duty will have the authority to close the pool and tennis courts in inclement weather.
b. The pool will be open for swimming, except for events listed in paragraph C. Pool operating hours vary by season and will be posted.
c. The schedule of the large pool for swim/dive instruction, swim/dive team practice, swim/dive meets and social events will be posted on the bulletin board.
d. Boisterous conduct on Club property that could cause injury to oneself, or others is prohibited at all times.
e. Cost of property damage due to negligence will be charged to the responsible member.
f. The Club will not be responsible for loss of or damage to personal property.
g. Abusive and objectionable language will not be tolerated.
h. Bicycles and vehicles must be parked in prescribed areas.
i. Motorists must drive slowly and carefully on Club property and must park in marked spaces only
j. In order to promote friendly neighborhood relations, members and their guests will refrain from speeding, trespassing or any other annoyances that might disturb nearby property owners.
k. No horses or unleashed pets will be allowed on Club property.
l. It shall be the duty of the Club Manager, assisted by the Staff, to take necessary measures, including suspension of Club privileges, to always enforce these rules.
II. Registration
a. All membership fees, annual dues, and charges must be paid in full prior to using the Club facilities.
b. All Members must sign in at the entry desk for each pool visit and at the tennis shop when using the tennis courts.
c. Guests will be admitted when accompanied, and registered, by a Club Member. Guest fees must be paid at registration. Houseguests of Club Members may be admitted on a weekly basis by registering with the Manager or Assistant Manager. (See Guest Fee Schedule)
d. A “guest” is defined as any non-member entering the Sardis Swim & Racquet Club property upon invitation of a Member.
e. Each Member family may bring a maximum of fifteen (15) guests per calendar year. The same in-town guest is permitted only twelve (12) visits per calendar year.
f. Baby-Sitters: No charge will be made if baby-sitters do not use the facilities. If dressed for swimming or tennis, a guest fee must be paid. Baby-sitters may wear swim attire when taking care of children within the fenced area of the pool at no charge.
III. Pool Sanitation
a. All persons must take a soap shower before entering the large pool.
b. Parents should encourage children to use the toilet before entering the pool.
c. Children not toilet trained and children under the age of three (3) are not permitted in the large pool. Children in the baby pool must wear plastic or rubber pants over diapers. Children in diapers are not permitted in the large pool.
d. Only conventional bathing attire will be allowed in the pool, no jeans, shorts, etc.
e. Any persons will infections, skin abrasions, colds, coughs, inflamed eyes, or wearing bandages may be denied use of the pool
f. Food and refreshments may be consumed in designated areas only.
g. Soft drinks are allowed around the pool.
h. Food is allowed only in the covered eating area adjacent to the snack bar, or in the lawn area (picnic tables) between the Pool area and the Tennis Courts.
i. No smoking on the pool deck except in areas provided with ashtrays.
j. No pets allowed in the pool area.
k. Persons using the Club facilities are responsible for its cleanliness. All trash must be disposed of in containers provided for this purpose.
l. The Mecklenburg County Health Department Rules and Recommendations concerning bathing places shall govern the health and safety of this pool.
IV. Pool Safety
a. Swimming Pool
i. Running, pushing, wrestling, ducking and horseplay will not be allowed.
ii. The Pool Staff will require children to demonstrate swimming ability and will classify them as “swimmers” or “non-swimmers”.
iii. Children who are “non-swimmers” must be always accompanied in the pool by a parent or other responsible person.
iv. Approved life jackets may be worn in the shallow end of the pool only. Flotation devices must be vested.
v. No balls, inner tubes, water wings, or other toys are allowed in the pool, except as provided for special events. (Exception: noodles). See Manager or Assistant Manager for explanation.
vi. Everyone must leave the pool in the event of an emergency. The emergency signal is three (3) blasts on the Lifeguard’s whistle.
vii. At the discretion of the Lifeguard, a 10-minute rest period may be signaled each hour for children under eighteen (18).
b. Diving Area
i. Under no circumstances are non-swimmers allowed in the diving area.
ii. Only one person at a time is allowed on a diving board.
iii. No diving or jumping to the side of the board.
iv. No free swimming in the diving area.
v. No one is allowed on the diving board when the fulcrum is being adjusted.
c. Wading Pool
i. The wading pools are designed for children six (6) years old and under.
ii. No Lifeguard will be assigned to the wading area. Children’s safety and behavior will be the full responsibility of the parents. At least one parent or responsible person must be present in the wading pool area.
d. General Safety
i. At no time shall there be any use of the pool except when completely supervised by Lifeguards. All members, their children and all guests use the facilities at their own risk.
ii. No glass containers of any kind are allowed in the pool area or bathhouse.
iii. No unauthorized person will be allowed in the filter or chlorine rooms.
iv. All injuries must be reported to the Pool Staff immediately.
v. No unnecessary talking to the Lifeguards on duty.
vi. The Managers must be informed of any specific health problems or physical disability of any member. This will help the Staff in handling possible emergencies.
vii. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the pool area.
viii. Parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of Ten (10).
V. Playground Rules
a. The playground facilities are for use by Members and their registered guests.
b. Members and their guests use the playground equipment at their own risk.
c. Children under the age of five (5) should be supervised.
d. Shoes should be worn to prevent possible injury.
e. Improper use of the playground equipment by an individual may result in his/her removal from the play area.
VI. Tennis Rules
a. All players wishing to reserve courts shall sign their full names and time on the tennis register prior to playing. If you use courts and fail to sign in, anyone wishing to use the courts may “bump” you from the court.
b. Time limit for play is one (1) hour for singles and two (2) hours for doubles.
c. During a one-week period (Sunday through Saturday) the courts may be booked a maximum of three (3) times, but not more than twice on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday). You may play more than three (3) times a week if invited by another player who has reserved the court in his/her full name.
d. Please be punctual. Courts will not be held open. If persons who reserved the court are not ready to play ten (10) minutes after starting time, the court will be released to anyone wishing to play.
e. Anyone reserving a court and subsequently finding they cannot use it must cancel the reservation. Failure to do this may result in the members’ booking privileges being suspended.
f. Persons under sixteen (16) years of age may not reserve courts after 6:00 pm on weekdays or until 1:00 pm on weekends. They may however play on open, unreserved courts after and before these times respectively but may be subject to bumping by an adult dues paying member if all other courts are full.
g. All players must wear tennis shoes and appropriate tennis apparel is suggested. Shirts are always required.
h. Children are not permitted in the court area for any reason except for tennis.
i. Players are responsible for the cleanliness of the courts.
j. No alcoholic beverages allowed on the courts.
k. The Staff of the Club is authorized and directed to enforce all rules.
l. Guests will be admitted when accompanied and registered by a member. Guest fees must be paid at the pool during season or submitted to the Treasurer or Tennis Professional during the off season (see Guest Fee Schedule). During the off-season, guests are admitted by the honor system. Non-payment of guest fees will result in the loss of guest privileges.
m. Keys to the ball machine are not to be loaned out to anyone except staff, board members or team captains. Persons no longer holding these positions must turn in their keys.
n. The ball machine is to be used by approved members only (16 years old and older). Any unauthorized use of the machine will result in a loss of privileges.
o. CLAY COURTS – All general rules apply with the following additions:
i. Members must brush the clay courts after each use. This is mandatory for continued use.
ii. The clay courts will be closed for scheduled maintenance and may be closed during certain times of the year where clay court play is not recommended
iii. Children under the age of 16 may NOT use the clay courts unless accompanied by an adult member.
NOTE: We ask that any Club Member using the facility during the off-season do so with these rules in mind.
